New Clone Wars Clone Trooper Images at JediNews
July 30, 2009 | 4:15 PM EST | Jayson

Our friends at JediNews have acquired a few new images today from 2 of the upcoming Target Exclusive battle packs that were shown at SDCC. Head on over for images of Clone Troopers "Sinker" (light/white hair) and "Boost" (w/double mohawk) from the Ambush at Abregado Battle Pack with Plo Koon and a Rocket Battle Droid. Also, Clone Troopers "Waxer" (the bald one) and "Boil" (w/handlebar mustache) from the Assault on Ryloth Battle Pack with Mace Windu and Clone Commander Cody.

Target Rancor Takes A Hike - A Price Hike
July 30, 2009 | 3:04 PM EST | Jayson

With Target stores across this country doing their summer/fall resets, a disturbing, yet sadly unsurprising, pricing modification has been observed. It now appears that the Exclusive Jabba's Rancor as gone from $39.99 to $49.99. So if you didn't buy it before, I don't suspect folks will be buying it now and will wait for it to hit the clearance aisle - a practice many collectors these days are doing more often.

Mark Hamill Returning to Star Wars?
July 30, 2009 | 2:49 PM EST | Jayson

There is a strong theory provided by Yakreader "Georgia Jedi" that Mark "Luke Skywalker" Hamill maybe returning to Star Wars, not in body but possibly through lending his voice to the new Mandalorian leader in the upcoming Season of The Clone Wars!

Here is his theory:

A few days ago, when SW.com posted a summary from the SW Spectacular at Comic Con, I tried to post a couple of replies which Lucas Inc. is still holding in limbo.

Anyway, I believe that the voice of the new Mandalorian leader featured at the end of the Season 2 teaser is provided by none other than Mark Hamill, a guy who has done a ton of toon work over the years. Three reasons.

1) For starters, the voice sounds like Hamill, particularly something about the way he says "Jedi."

2) Also, Lucas Inc, in the official verbiage about the new season in the SW Spectacular article itself, mentions an "oddly familiar" new voice in the cast. This, of course, is almost exactly what Luke said about Dagobah when he was talking to R2 before Yoda showed up.

3) Now, of course, Lucas Inc is holding my speculative posts in limbo and not allowing them to post.

Stay tuned to see how this theory pans out and head into the forums to weigh in on what you think of this potential revelation.

The Force Unleashed News Update
July 29, 2009 | 4:47 PM EST | Justin2

A while back there was some speculation that Toys"R"Us would be carrying some exclusive TFU figures in 2010. With the revelation of the Shaak Ti figure in an Expanded Universe wave, it appeared as though this idea may have been ditched.

However our friends at Jeditemplearchives.com have posted some new information that gives us hope that we might see more figures from the game. Keep your fingers crossed and head on over after the jump!

Episode 205: S.W.A.N's SDCC Coverage! Listen Now!
July 28, 2009 | 12:34 PM EST | Jayson

Another San Diego Comic-con has come and gone. Star Wars fans over the weekend were able to celebrate the announcement of new releases (such as the eFX TIE Fighter Studio Scale Model) and left scratching their heads at what wasn't announced (Star Wars Celebration V). And Star Wars Action News was in San Diego to cover it all for you, the Star wars fan that couldn't be there, or was there but couldn't be everywhere at once!

First we had a live show from Kotobukiya's stage at San Diego Comic Con, filled with several special guests. We interviewed Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet about Star Wars Celebration 5, as well as his upcoming book; we talked to the Emmy nominated writers of Robot Chicken: Star Wars 2, Doug Goldstein, Mike Fasolo, and Dan Milano, about Robot Chicken, Short Circuit, and the upcoming game Star Wars: The Old Republic. We talked to super-collectors Gus Lopez and Duncan Jenkins about their signings, how you at home can get a copy of their book autographed from the comfort of your home, and what convention exclusives you won't find on eBay. We also talked about new products with Barry Jones from eFX Collectibles and Frank Supiot from Kotobukiya

You can download part one of week's show here or use the direct link: Audio or Enhanced Versions.

And if that's not enough Comic-con coverage for you, we have another entire show devoted to SDCC, our annual postmortem show. We wrap up the experience of meeting Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, engaging in full-contact collecting, getting books signed (and re-signed) by authors, and the immense fun that is waiting in line! We also talk about our favorite events from the convention, and which items on the showroom floor have us most excited.

You can download part two of week's show here or use the direct link: Audio or Enhanced Versions.

Toyguide Update: CW14 Yoda
July 28, 2009 | 9:49 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates contine with the addition of Yoda, the next addition to the exploding Clone Wars section.

Lucasfilm came out strong with the series follow up to the Clone Wars movie by showcasing Yoda for its first episode "Ambush" and it was quick to become an instant fan favorite. Yoda's personality shown through his character very well in this episode and harkened back to his mischievous and compassionate attitudes he conveyed in The Empire Strikes Back. That playful Yoda was mixed with his masterful lightsaber skills witnessed in Attack of the Clones and proved once again that size matters not and Yoda was not one to trifle with in combat.

For this all-new version of Yoda, Hasbro went back to the drawing board and have rendered the previous figure obsolete. This definitive Clone Wars Yoda is fully articulated with ball joint shoulders, elbows, waist, a ball socket head and ankles and finally, swivel wrist and hip joints, Hasbro's designers went as far as giving him a new head sculpt as well. For accessories, Yoda doesn't include many but they are the essentials: a soft goods robe, gimer stick and lightsaber.

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: CW13 4A-7
July 27, 2009 | 10:38 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with the addition of 4A-7, the next addition to the exploding Clone Wars section.

4A-7 made his first, and only, appearance in the Clone Wars movie and served as an espionage droid working along side the Separatists to convince Jabba that the Jedi were responsible for little Rotta's kidnapping. Unfortunately for 4A-7, his treachery was discovered and he met his end at the blade of Padawan Ahsoka.

This figure itself is a kit bash of the existing Clone Wars protocol droid body previously utilized on C-3PO and TC-70 from the Jabba's Palace Battle Pack and thus shares the same points of articulation. The only truly new part offered on the figure is the head and instead of featuring the aforementioned protocol droid's light pipe eye port, 4A-7 has a large set of eyes (which are removable) and are designed/painted in such a way to give the appearance that they "glitter" but sadly not to the effect of the character's rendering in the film*. For accessories, 4A-7 includes the standard issue battle droid blaster and a small hologram accessory showing "Skyguy" and "Snips' tending to "Stinky" who is being carried in a Republic issued backpack.

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

*There are carded and loose images out there of existing 4A-7 figures with the blue eye lens. No word if this version will actually be available in wider release.

Toyguide Update: Corporate Alliance Tank Droid
July 24, 2009 | 7:44 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume today with a new addition to the Clone Wars section. Today we present the Corporate Alliance Tank Droid.

We've only just started seeing detailed photos at SDCC, but the "Snail Tank" is hitting store shelves as we speak. The Corporate Alliance Tank Droid made its on screen debut in Revenge of the Sith and has had moderate screen time in the Clone Wars animated series. The vehicle itself is fairly sizable and features a working rubber tread, twin firing rocket launchers and 2 opening hatches providing access to a cockpit for carrying a battle droid pilot and a rear-facing gunner station. Unfortunately, the outriggers do not have footpegs to aid in carrying battle droids into combat, but the surface is large enough that figures can stand on each of them relatively unassisted. The packaging for this also incorporates the foldout dioarma/backdrop that works fairly well for the figures themselves, but seems a tad small when displayed with the Tank Droid . Overall, this is an excellent vehicle well worth picking up as it ranks closely with new Vulture Droid and Magnaguard Fighters.

Head to the toyguide to see if this vehicle is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: CW12 Obi-Wan Kenobi
July 21, 2009 | 11:56 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with a series of new additions to the Clone Wars section. Next up, the Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Affectionately known as "Space Suit Obi-Wan", this version of the venerable Jedi sports this gear, albeit briefly, at the beginning of the "Dooku Captured" Clone Wars episode which he uses to covertly board Dooku's flagship to rescue Anakin. For as little screen time this particular version of Obi-Wan had, Hasbro did it justice as this figure is another highlight of what is possible in this line, from the abundance of articulation to the bevy of accessories. In the articulation department, Obi-Wan features ball joint, neck, shoulders, elbows, knees and ankles along with swivel forearms/gloves, waist and hips. For accessories, he includes a removable helmet and rocket firing jetpack, new lightsaber and lightsaber hilt that can be conveniently clipped to his belt. Overall he has a very 50's sci-fi feel and also hints at other "spacer-type" characters that you might find patronizing Mos Eisley spaceport and the like.

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: CW11 Heavy Assault Super Battle Droid
July 21, 2009 | 2:02 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with a series of new additions to the Clone Wars section. Next up, the Heavy Assault Super Battle Droid.

Originally dubbed "Sergeant" in Hasbro's Toyfair '09 Presentation, the Heavy Assault Super Battle Droid is essentially a repack of the previous CW version with a new deco, shoulder emblem and missile firing cannon left arm. The existing right arm retains the holes on the forearm for attaching one of the former standard SBD's missile launchers in case you really want to increase its firepower. Aside from the BFG arm, it retains all of the previous figure's articulation which entails shoulder and torso ball sockets joints, swivel/pivot right arm and swivel hips. Again, no knee or ankle articulation is included.

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

Episode 204: ComicCon International 2009 Pre-Game Show!
July 21, 2009 | 10:29 AM EST | Jayson

We found them. Repeat, we found them! Entertainment Earth recently put up for pre-order ALL FOUR of the Republic Commando mini-busts from Gentle Giant's most recent "mini-bust world tour", allowing many US collectors to breathe a big sigh of relief. On this week's Star Wars Action News we talk about the release of these busts, and talk a bit about the higher prices for these items.

But those weren't the only "exclusive" items released online this past week. StarWarsShop.com opened their own Comic Con Store, which is ironic as they are not having a store in San Diego, but you can pre-order such items as the previously hard-to-find Stormtrooper Commander figure from The Force Unleashed, and over at HasbroToyShop.com you could order the smiling X-Wing Luke figure. We discuss these and many other online sales and bargains on this week's show.

Also this week, we give the final run down on San Diego Comic Con with the big news about the big news to be revealed during the Star Wars Spectatu--, oh, I'm sorry, Lucasfilm Extravaganza on Friday night.

But if you're over in Europe one of the largest conventions has already happened: The London Film and Comic Con. We have a report from that "footloose" convention from our own UK-based reporter, Steve, The Ginger Prince, who also has a hard to get autograph as a prize!

With a vintage report from Kevin, a preview of the new fan audio drama Star Wars: In the Shadows, and a discussion of the new deluxe figures from Hasbro, it's all on this week's Star Wars Action News!

And don't forget if you're at San Diego Comic Con to come see our live show Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Kotobukiya booth in the exhibit hall. We will have special guests Steve Sansweet, Gus Lopez, Duncan Jenkins, and more!

You can download this week's show here or use the direct link: Audio or Enhanced Versions.

Toyguide Update: CW10 ARF Trooper
July 21, 2009 | 7:14 AM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with a series of new additions to the Clone Wars section. Next up, the ARF Trooper.

The "Advanced Reconnaissance Fighter" specialize in covert information gathering and often employ AT-RT Walkers while in the field. These particular Clones were featured in the Clone Wars episode "Libery on Ryloth" and judging by the markings on his helmet, this might actually be Clone Trooper "Razor" who served under command of Mace Windu.

As for the figure, initial photos of the ARF Trooper's hip joints had collectors scared "sith"less but the final product turned out by Team Hasbro is quite good and allows for a wide range of articulation and with that - more display options. In addition to the ball jointed hips, this figure features the standard articulation points we've become accustomed to with the Clone Wars troopers. Their helmets have design cues that suggest being precursors to the 41st Elite Legion Troopers of ROTS and even the Scout Troopers of ROTJ. As for armament, the ARF Trooper is outfitted with a standard issue DC-15A blaster rifle and chain gun which serves double duty as a rocket launcher. I imagine that we'll see this trooper offered up in the line again, hopefully in the camouflage deco as seen in the Clone Wars movie.

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: CW08 Jawas
July 20, 2009 | 9:14 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with a series of new additions to the Clone Wars section. Next up, the Jawas.

As soon as we saw them in the Clone Wars movie, we knew we needed these disgusting creatures and Hasbro didn't disappoint. Here we are treated to two Jawas, each with their own unique sculpt, articulation and accessories. The tallest Jawa features shoulder and elbow ball-joints with a swivel neck, wrists and waist and includes an ion blaster rifle and bandolier with large working holster. The shorter Jawa is no slouch either sporting ball-jointed shoulders and swivel neck, waist, wrists and feet. He too features a bandolier with working holster but drew the short end of gaffi stick with the smaller, yet equally effective ion blaster pistol. These two figures make for great scene building characters or for army building and blend in quite nicely with the live action sculpted iterations as well, especially if soft goods were added to them at some point. *Hint* *Hint* Hasbro designers. : )

Head to the toyguide to see if these figures are worth adding to your collection.

Toyguide Update: CW07 Admiral Yularen
July 20, 2009 | 4:52 PM EST | Jayson

The Yakface Toyguide updates resume this week with a series of new additions to the Clone Wars section starting with Admiral Yularen.

This all-new figure imparts a decent likeness to his on-screen character and has a fair amount of articulation overall, but sorely lacks that feature in the legs. Yularen suffers from this oversight greatly as he tends to topple easily without the assistance of a figure stand (not included) or without leaning against the Holo-Com table. The Holo-Com Table is an excellent accessory in its own right as it will look at home in any Original or Prequel Trilogy diorama.

Head to the toyguide to see if this figure is worth adding to your collection.

New Clone Wars Found in Oregon
July 17, 2009 | 4:18 PM EST | Jayson

Yakreader Mike W. reports in with his latest find:
"At my local Target here in Albany, Oregon, I found the new Clone Wars wave. I found Cade Bane, Ahsoka Tano, Mace with snap on clone armor, Commander Gree, and Clone Trooper Denal. When I went to pay for them they didn't ring up as they were not in the system. So I waited for a price check (hoping they would still sell them to me) then they sold them to me for the price other clone wars figures sell for."

Great find Mike, thanks for the report! Click the image above for a closer look at his haul.

New Female Stormtrooper Revealed - Maybe, Maybe Not
July 16, 2009 | 1:23 PM EST | Justin2

Fans of female troops can rejoice as it looks like we've got another upcoming figure for your viewing pleasure today - a female Stormtrooper. Hopefully we'll hear more about her at Comic Con, and verify that this isn't a custom - until then, head on over to the forums for a closer look.

However, we have to take into account that the eBay listing for this figure states "custom" in the listing. So this might be a thing of fan fiction. What do YOU think? There's good reason to argue it's legit but just as much reason right now to assume that it's fake... sound off with your thoughts one way or the other HERE.

Shadows of the Empire TIE Fighter Identified
July 10, 2009 | 11:14 PM EST | Jayson

A couple months back, our friends at JediDefender uncovered a photo (shown above) of a new TIE Fighter with retooled cockpit. At the time it was thought that the mold of this TIE might be a mockup due to red viewport and top hatch. Well after our post yesterday about a rumored "Shadows of the Empire" TIE Fighter, I dug out my issues of the SOTE comics and sure enough the image above closely matches the TIE illustrations. Have a look:

Again, I expect that this theory will be officially confirmed at San Diego Comic Con. Weigh in with your opinion of this potential discovery in our forum.

Episode 202: My Thumb Drive is Better Than Yours
July 8, 2009 | 3:23 PM EST | Jayson

Thumb drives are great items. Tiny, handy, and universal. As long as you don't lose one out of your pocket in a sofa cushion with several weeks worth of work, they are items becoming as ubiquitous today as a floppy disc or CD was years ago. Perhaps that is why we Star Wars fans now have not one but TWO companies producing USB Thumb Drives for our data storage needs. For the past several years Mimobot has produced some of the cutest thumb drives this side of Endor, and now Funko, makers of the popular Star Wars bobbleheads, gets in on the action. Find out about these new entries on this week's Star Wars Action News!

Also this week, we have first-time Star Wars author Christie Golden, author of the new Fate of the Jedi novel Omen, with us. She discusses what it is like being a first-time author writing in the EU, and hints at some things we can expect to see coming up in the series!

With a Hasbro Q&A, a lament of bent red cards, and a discussion why the Acme Leia is hot! hot! hot! It's all this week on Star Wars Action News!

And stay tuned for more Star Wars Action News content from San Diego ComicCon, including a live show at the Kotobukiya stage! Come to swactionnews.com for more details!

Star Wars TV Series Rumors
July 2, 2009 | 12:23 PM EST | Jayson

Sci Fi TV out of Australia is reporting confirmations of pre-production being started for the as yet to be named series in the land down under.

Rumours about the pre-production of Star Wars, the live action series, to be shot in Australia, have been confirmed by several inside sources.

The quality and style of writing that will be used will be of the highest quality, and local, and writers will be sourced from outside traditional Science Fiction shows. Several big names within the Australian industry (including writers from the Award-winning Love My Way and the Award-winning Secret Life of Us) have been approached by Star Wars uber-producer, Rick McCallum.

Love My Way and Secret Life of Us can be characterised by the focus on relationships and emotional landscapes (traditional 'chick shows', if you will). Bringing this element into the world of Star Wars sees a marked departure of the final three films and animated Clone Wars, where the primary audience was children.

This throws the new series into a whole new spotlight, and should excite fans of the Star Wars universe looking towards more adult fare

More solidification of rumour into fact will come as soon as possible.
